Trip Report - The Great Catfish Hunt |
![]() |
Members of the club were invited to dive the lake at Trentside Fisheries at Burton Stather and hopefully locate and remove a catfish believed to be the reason for damage to several stocked fish.
Thirteen members kitted up and entered the water.
The first task was to deploy a large net buoyed by plastic containers and several lifting bags and DSMBs.
The net was successfully moved across the lake and hauled ashore at the other side but no catfish was encountered.
Many small roach were caught in the net but instead of building a barbecue, they were carefully rescued and returned to the water.
Visibility was poor – the length of a ruler (30cm) being a fair estimate – but some members managed to find odd pieces of rubbish which were removed.
This was a new experience. It was by no means good diving but it did provide an enjoyable social event and brought the club a donation from the owner.
