The winter months have seen little action amongst members when it comes to open water diving but the club has not been entirely inactive. Our promise to take members of the Scunthorpe Round Table for try dives was kept. Eight people reported to the Riddings Pool and were taken in by five instructor/leaders but there was a tremendous response to the appeals for help with several members giving up their evening to support the event at poolside. All in all this was a very successful event from more than one angle and for both parties; the chairman of the Round Table (who was an active participant) asked if we would do the event again this year (2012). We will!
January has also brought in some new blood to the branch. Five people have registered for the Ocean Diver course and by the end of the month should have had their first experience of pool training and lectures. We hope to have them into open water by early April.
I have FOUR people who have sent photographs in for the planned competition; this is a last appeal. I will be finalising the 40th Anniversary ‘Album’ within the next few days though it’s amazing how busy retirement actually is.
Start checking those servicing dates and getting the cobwebs off the dry suits. It will soon be time for getting wet again!
