Trip Report - Eyemouth 2009 |
![]() |
After a long journey for all we arrived at the First and Last pub which was our accomodation and watering hole for the night, just a mile or two down the road from Eyemouth. Derek our skipper was there to welcome us all and take us down to the harbour to show us his boat and where we needed to be in the morning which was a great help to those of us who get lost easily. Accomodation was fab - triple en-suite rooms which were brand new, although some people (Paul!!) obviously didn't appreciate their roommates and wanted to bunk in with the girls!!!
Woke up to a gorgeous day and after a great breakfast headed down to the harbour. We were away by half past 8 to the first dive site which was only a couple of minutes trip out of Eyemouth Harbour. Everyone was kitted up quickly and Mac (being ever so excited to dive the pretties) jumped in first - OH DEAR! Having pressure tested his suit recently he'd forgotten to sort his cuff dump out the right way round so got a little bit wet and had to completely de-kit to sort it out!!!
Dive 1 was Hurker Rock which is a boken up wreck, there was quite a drift on, so for the lazy ones among us who didn't want to fight against it we went with the flow and missed the wreck completely!! It was teeming with life though, shoals of small fish and crabs and lobster galore. Marine boy came up with loads of "treasure" including an ancient fishermans shoe and tea mug!!
Dive 2 was purely a pretty at St Abbs - Black Carr was covered in multi coloured Dahlia, Sunstar and Beadlet anenomes - , brittle starfish, common starfish and 100's of urchins. Sandra, Nick, Nerys and Shane had fun playing with some friendly wrasse. Me and Sheila were happy snapping away with our cameras and I found a gorgeous jellyfish.
Dive 3 was a semi - broken up wreck The President that had intact boilers and lots of spread out plate which meant lots of hiding places for crabs and lobsters. There was still some intact brass which was nice to see, looked like plenty of people had tried and failed to get it off.
The day was fantastic - weather was perfect, we were well looked after by the Skipper who provided cakes, soup and endless drinks - Thanks to Una and Georgia for preparing it all for us and giving us a hand kitting up.
Big Thanks to Sandra who'd organised it all and managed to get everything perfect for us all (including the weather!) Think everyone had a great time and we'll definitely go back again.
