May 2010
There has been a lot of activity at Ocean and Sports Diver levels over the past
two months.
Training has been done at Blue Lagoon, Stoney Cove and on the
Costa del Scunny (Ashby Ville). Stewart Hinchliffe qualified as Sports Diver in
April and Mark Sykes and Colin Smith completed their Ocean Diver qualifiers
in early May.
Mac has done some sound work in leading experience dives at Blue Lagoon and
Ashby Ville and Sandra has continued to support the club by instructing in all
three locations. I am grateful for the input from everyone in the
instructing/leadership team; I am still restricted to dive managing from terra
firma.
I have ordered training packs for several members in particular the
newly-qualified and soon-to-be-qualified Ocean Divers so that they can begin
training at the next level.
Indeed, Colin and Mark have already begun their Sports Diver practicals at
Ashby Ville where they have also been playing casualty for Rick Stevens who
will soon complete his Sports Diver qualification.
The new influx of divers at Ocean Diver level means that we have sufficient
numbers interested in running in-house courses again. Phil Field is willing to
offer another course on using the new club O2 kit (so if you missed it in Spring
let me know) and to organise a compressor course at the boathouse.
