We will be traveling down on a Friday and traveling home on the Sunday.
We will be staying for two nights in The Home Arms which is situated in the very heart of Eyemouth We have a nominal check-out time to clean and prepare the rooms for our next guests, we will always have a shower and a place to change available for guests to use before travel onwards or home.
Dive gear is transported to and from the boat; so your car can stay parked. There is plenty for non-divers and families to do locally, so everyone can stay.
There will be two dives on Saturday and two dives on Sunday.
Diving takes place from one of two purpose built luxury dive boats with hydraulic diver lift, each boat is easily loaded from the harbour pontoon. Each has a very large dive deck with ample space even for twin-set divers. Kitting-up is very comfortable. The wheelhouse provides everyone enough shelter from any rogue weather. There is an on-board toilet and plenty of safe storage for kit. Both vessels are MCA licensed to carry 12+2
John, David, Neil and Jim supported James Watson Scaffolding Ltd to remove scaffolding used to repair the wall by the bridge (White Harte Pub) in Brigg yesterday.
Thank you to members who got involved on the day. Initially we were their to provide rescue support however due to the water levels our divers unbolted most of the brackets in almost zero viz. and heavy rain to enable the work to be completed. The club received a donation to support its activities for helping out from Hill Builders Ltd.
Due to recent resignations from the Committee, we no longer have enough Officers to hold an official Committee Meeting.
The Club Constitution calls for a minimum of 5 Officers to form a quorum, which has to include one of the Chairman or Secretary. Currently we have 4 Committee Members.
Meetings, however, will continue to be held on an unofficial basis. Notes will be kept from these meetings.
On the advice of BSAC the remaining Officers can, and will, continue to make decisions for you with the best interests of the Club being the main criterion for decision making. So, for the interim period, until the AGM, that is what is going to happen. An EGM is not necessary.
Good news because we don’t have to consider dissolving the club; bad news because fewer members are involved in deciding what is good for the club. We are a club run by its members and I ask again for people to take an interest in the club, we need members willing to get involved and put some effort into running the club. It is your club and without the effort put in by a few, would fold. You do not need any experience for the roles on offer, nor do you need to be in the club for a minimum period. Willingness to help and attendance at meetings is essential – we can teach you the rest.
One of the resignee’s is Paul Hildreth. Paul has been an active member of the Committee for 8 or 9 years, serving first as Assistant Diving Officer, then Diving Officer for at least the last 5 years. I am sure all members will join me in thanking Paul for his dedication to the club over this period.
From today, 1/05/15, Dave Jackson is acting Diving Officer and all diving matters should be directed to him. I would stress that nothing changes with the rules relating to diving, these are laid down by the National Diving Officer, and we will continue to follow them.
Pool sessions Try Dives and training available at Riddings Pool on Sunday's 19th, 26th April and 10th May 2015.
Please message or contact David Jackson to book a place.
The RIB boat it now at Winterton, awaiting the trailers breaks to be cleaned and maintained. Christian and Neil ran the engine and give it a mini service and all is good for next season RIB diving.
Stay safe this winter!
Use regulators designed for cold water use.
Increase the amount of exposed metal by removing hose protectors.
Use lower pressure cylinders - ie. 232 rather than 300 bar.
Inflate BCDs or wings slowly to avoid over working the 1st stage.
Set the 2nd stage breathing resistance adjuster to minimum.
Abort the dive if your regulator free flows - even if you do stop it!
Overwork your regulator by airsharing or inflating a Surface Marker Buoy.
Breathe from or purge your regs on the surface.
With the welcome addition of Craig Trought the Weymouth trip is now full with 12 divers all from our club. I'm very pleased with the response of club members because I prefer to have all diving places from Scunthorpe members.
Thanks to Neal Overton for this great video of the Try Dive.
Congratulations to Daniel, Janine, Craig, Adam, Ed, Jordan, Julie and Wayne for completing a Try Dive at Riddings Pool with the club. We hope to see you again soon.
If we have 6 or more members interested we can arrange a Night Dive at Eight Acre Lake. Suggested date is the evening of Thursday 5th March 2015 (Full Moon).
If interest please post or see David Jackson at the club.

Another year has gone by,culminating in the AGM,social night out(well done Christian on your diver of the year award)and some very keen divers braving the cold to dive in December.
As usual we have gained a few divers, lost a few and retained our membership around two dozen.
We have lost our Secretary, replaced by Mark Smith and our Treasurer Nerys. If anyone has any knowledge of accounts there is a job going. Christian has volunteered to do the job in the meantime. If there are no other candidates he will be elected at the next Committee meeting.
Nerys, who can't give the job the time it needs, has offered to help out if we have any problems and she will audit the accounts at year end, so thanks for that Nerys.
The club has a core of quality divers a few of these need to progress their training. Again, you are the future of the club. We need more divers to train as Assistant Instructors, Dive Leaders and beyond. Over the years we have lost all of our Advanced Divers/OWI's,qualifications which we need to continue advanced training. EVERYONE should consider further training to help themselves and the club.
Thanks to all divers for helping out throughout the year.
As the next two Thursday's are bank holidays and attendance at the Hospital club will be non-existant, a merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all and I will see some of you on January 8th - a Committee meeting night by the way.
Well done Brenton and Paul for braving the cold (-3C on the shore and 7C in the water) for their first open water dive.
Great to see Cameron, Tom and Neal O also enjoying a dip. Special thank you to Neil B and his son for providing shore cover and going the extra mile to ensure the kit was prepared.
Congratulations to Christian voted club diver of the year! Sorry you couldn't be with us tonight.
Well done all members. A fab year and plenty to look forward to in the coming months
